What are you waiting for?

Waiting for inspiration? Well in my opinion don’t wait! I find the most important aspect for inspiration is to get out with my camera. I’m often inspired by the thing or external events that occur in front of me on the street.

Nine times out of ten I head out with a subject or topic in mind with ideas coming from popular culture, such as books, films or online influences but the most important aspect is just being in the right place at the right time with my camera at the ready.

Rainy day in the park

Let's hope it stops raining soon

If I sat at home because I didn’t feel inspired I might never go out in search of photographic opportunities.

I truly believe that everyone has the possibility to make great images but not everyone feels motivated to get out and do it. By doing we learn what works and what doesn’t and that is a process where we can progress in our skills as a photographer.

On Thursday last week, the weather here in Geneva was grim and I could have stayed in but not me!

I broke out my best umbrella and seized my weather proof Leica Q2 and went out into the inclement weather.

Although it was still fairly warm the city was wet, miserable and a little windy. The light, however, was perfect for my style of black and white street photography with plenty of opportunity for reflected light and moody shots.

The autumn is on it's way, Geneva, Switzerland

All in all I took inspiration from shooting in the bad weather and challenged myself to stay creative by getting out there.

So, the next time you have some rain, fog or snow be inspired to get out and make some interesting pictures too!
