Focus on learning urban portraits

I wanted to discover if it was possible to add more portraits in my body of work as a black and white street photographer. If the occasion to make a picture of someone presents itself when I’m out and about I must be prepared.

Urban portrait, Basia

For that reason I decided to book a portrait workshop with Leica photographer Matt Osborne (@mrleicacom) to grow and improve my creativity and knowledge.

Matt was the right choice for this kind of workshop. His knowledge and mastery in portraiture was exactly what I required for making portraits of my own while using natural light in urban environments.

We spent a full morning improving and transforming my portrait skills with Basia (@basiapanecka_).

I took two cameras with me, firstly, the Leica M10 with the 35mm Summilux (steel rim) initially, before swapping to the 50mm Summilux.

Secondly I used the Leica M6 Titanium loaded with Ilford HP5 and later FP4.

The photoshoot was a success and I’ll definitely use the techniques that I acquired for my future street portraiture.

Take a look below at some of the photos from the session and if you’re interested in having an environmental / urban portrait taken don’t hesitate to contact me (info@kieronbeard.com) or send me a direct message on Instagram (@kieron_beard_photography).
