Old Town Geneva

Yesterday I headed out on my Saturday morning photo walk as usual. Recently the weather in Geneva has been sunny and hot with no rain forecast. Therefore there weren't any umbrella, reflections or moody shots to be had!

Tones, silhouettes and light

Textures

As I walked up the narrow cobbled streets of the old town I noticed how the buildings cast strong shadows across the ground and on to the opposite walls and this inspired me to focus on light,  shadows and textures.

I decided to meter for the highlights and crush the shadows to produce more contrast in the photos. The strong sunlight accentuated the details of the background, such as walls, shutters and plants while making strong silhouettes of people. It was an ideal day to make use of negative space through use of distinct shadows that draw the eye to the subject.

It was quieter than usual on the streets of the old town due to the high temperatures and patience was required as I waited for people to walk into the frame. I thoroughly enjoyed being out on the streets and challenging myself.

I used the Leica Monochrom M246 with the 35mm Summilux (steel rim) initially, before swapping to the 50mm Summicron (Type 4). The second camera used was the Leica M6 Titanium loaded with Ilford FPAN Plus, but there will be a slight wait for the film to be processed before I display them here (keep checking back for the results).
