Into the cold
Whatever the weather
As I stepped out of the car I knew it’d be a cold one. Normally in the car park at Geneva train station is quite warm on parking level -3 but on Saturday it already felt rather cool.
I wasn't disappointed either. As soon as I stepped outside and into the fresh air I felt an icy blast as the wind hit me chilling me to the core. I didn’t mind though as I was out in the fresh air doing what I enjoy the most, making photos and thus memories.
Indeed the air was fresh but the trade off with the northerly wind was the blue sky and with the sun being at its winter low it was creating some stunning light and amazing long shadows. It certainly made up for the cold.
I enjoy making pictures in most conditions for different reasons. For example, when shooting in the rain the sheen of light from the pavement or another shiny surface can turn an ordinary scene into something rather special.
I think the key is not to be put off by the weather conditions but go out and take photos anyway. Last Saturday I was more than happy to take my Leica Q2 out into the cold.
