Manchester in May (2023)
Marvellous Manchester
Sometimes I move away from street photography in Geneva or London and look for alternative cities. When I planned this trip I looked at the convenience of a destination that would offer up new opportunities and environments in which to photograph.
This time I chose Manchester as it’s easy to get to from Geneva but armed with the knowledge that I’d probably experience rain at some point.
I wasn’t disappointed and as I stepped out of the hotel to make some street photos the warm spring rain began to fall. I like the rain though. It brings a sense of mood to the the place and consequently the photos. It didn’t rain constantly throughout my visit and, in fact, the sun came out and the weather was beautiful for that time of year.
I had no major expectations when visiting Manchester in terms of the city and what it had to offer. I like to explore and discover things for myself with the hope to capture the essence of the city within my photography.
Some of the highlights of the trip include a visit to the Northern Quarter ( https://www.visitmanchester.com/things-to-see-and-do/explore/neighbourhoods/northern-quarter ) and the National Football Museum ( https://www.nationalfootballmuseum.com ) but most off all I met some amazing people and was made to feel very welcome.
It was a wonderful experience to visit a new city where I could experience food from all over the world, and new sights and sounds that made for a successful trip.
Manchester offers so many exciting opportunities for the street photographer and I must make a return trip to experience more and to continue to make photos in this excellent city.
